What is the Green Hat Society?
The Green Hat Society is a Girl Scout alumnae group for ages 50+. It started in 2004 in Ohio when Girl Scout Alumna, Bonnie Hamic, hosted a tea party for her former troop. The invitation read “Come as you are, but wear a hat.” Since Bonnie was hosting at a campground from her RV, everyone came wearing hats decorated with items from nature such as flowers and pine cones. At one point during their reminiscing about Girl Scouting days, the comment was made “Those Red Hatter’s have nothing on us!” to which the reply was “Yes, but we’re Girl Scouts, so we’d have to be Green Hatters!” and the Green Hat Society was born with the mission to have fun while passing on Girl Scout traditions!
Lakes & Pines Green Hat Society
The Granite Patrol of the Lakes & Pines Green Hat Society held our Spring business meeting in March. We inducted nine new members including our first male member! We also elected a new Vice-Chair/Program Coordinator and Treasurer. A great time was had by all in true Girl Scout fashion with great food, great conversation and even a few camp songs!

Q & A
Who can join the Green Hat Society?
Any Girl Scout member or alumna age 50 or above can be a member. Male alumni can be booster club members.
I'm not 50 yet. Can I still be involved?
You will have to wait until the year you turn 50 to join the GHS, but there are still plenty of ways to be involved as an alumna! You can connect at the monthly Alumnae Dinner open to ALL alumnae (Grizzly's Wood Fired Grill, 6:30 pm, 2nd Tuesday each month in Waite Park) or help with alumnae volunteer projects. Contact our Staff-Alumnae Liaison, Michelle Hedgren, for even more ideas! email@example.com or (320) 247-4573
How much are the membership dues?
Membership dues are $10 annually. You will also have the opportunity to order a membership card along with a patch and/or pin. The cost for these items ranges from $1 for membership card only to $11 for the card, patch, and pin.
What is the time commitment of being a member?
The mission of the Lakes & Pines Green Hat Society is "to further the cause of Girl Scouting through the utilization of the skills and interests of our individual members.” This means it is completely up to you based on your personal skills and interests! Business meetings for general membership are only twice per year.
I am not from the St. Cloud Metro. Can I still be a member?
Absolutely! The Granite Patrol is just the first of what we hope to be many local patrols. No matter where you live you can be a member of the Lakes & Pines Green Hat Society. Our Granite Patrol members would be happy to help you start a local patrol in your area!
